Joining the International Day of Zero Waste: Over 160 Volunteers Clean Up Ha Thanh Beach

On the morning of March 21, 2026, at Ha Thanh Beach (Quang Phu Ward, Da Nang City), Let’s Do It Vietnam, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Quang Phu Ward and Hirdaramani Vietnam – Fashion Garments Ltd., organized a beach cleanup event titled “Beautiful Action – For a Blue Ocean” in support of the annual International Day of Zero Waste on March 30.

Starting at 7:00 a.m., the event brought together a large number of volunteers, alongside representatives from local authorities, social organizations, and community members. The activity aimed to raise public awareness about environmental protection, reduce littering, and inspire collective action toward building a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful community. More than 160 volunteers participated, collecting over 300 kilograms of waste scattered along the beach.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Chairman of the Quang Phu Ward People’s Committee, shared:
“Every year, central provinces like Da Nang face storms and floods, which bring large amounts of waste onto our shores, affecting both the environment and urban landscape. That is why we regularly organize beach cleanups to protect the environment and raise awareness among residents. We are delighted to see the support of businesses and environmental organizations in creating meaningful activities like today’s program.”

Volunteers received training on waste sorting and safety guidelines before the cleanup. They were also provided with tools such as gloves, litter pickers, and collection bags.

The program also welcomed Ms. Leonie Vaas, General Manager – Sustainability Division at Hirdaramani Vietnam – Fashion Garments Ltd. She emphasized:
“At Hirdaramani Vietnam, we are committed to promoting environmental protection and working hand in hand with local authorities and organizations like Let’s Do It Vietnam. Through initiatives like today’s, we want to remind the community of a simple but vital message: the environment is our life. It is the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. Every action we take matters. We hope each person, starting with the smallest steps, will join hands to protect the environment and build a greener, more sustainable future for all.”

In addition to the beach cleanup, participants enjoyed other meaningful activities such as waste-sorting demonstrations and interactive environmental games.

The United Nations established the International Day of Zero Waste on March 30 each year, beginning in 2023, to raise global awareness about reducing, reusing, and recycling waste. The initiative calls on countries, organizations, and individuals to promote zero-waste practices, improve solid waste management, and encourage sustainable consumption.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, National Coordinator of Let’s Do It Vietnam, highlighted:
“Vietnam currently ranks fourth in the world for plastic waste entering the ocean, with 80% coming from human activities. The ‘Beautiful Action – For a Blue Ocean’ program is not just about cleaning up trash—it is a strong call for everyone to start with small daily actions: using cloth bags at the market, carrying reusable water bottles, and sorting waste properly. Together, we can build a cleaner and more sustainable future.”
